Back for good

The title of this post isn’t a reference to Gary Barlow’s mob. No, this post marks my return to blogging, betting and banking (my profit…hopefully). I originally started this blog in July 2007 with the idea that I would make a healthy side profit from betting. Well as it turns out having just scanned my spreadsheet I can now announce to the world that I made a miserable loss of £444.49 over the course of twelve months. Not prolific by any means and may cause any seasoned gamblers to close this page immediately having read this shambolic news.

But, I say hold your horses. The second year in my experiment is going to be far wealthier as my profit for 2008 alone stands at £607.54. Okay, again not megabucks but I think we’re starting to move in the right direction. My plan however is to move toward the £1k per month target alongside my additional income through writing and p/t work as a comms officer. The eventual plan is to cut down slightly on one of the jobs so that we can sustain a profit through betting.

Now, most importantly the reason I have set myself quite a high target of £1k per month from gambling is that I uttered the four most expensive words ever to my girlfriend on a recent holiday. So I now have to budget for a wedding (in 2010) plus i still have some existing debt to clear. This will be a challenge but hopefully an entertaining challenge. The blog will detail all my bets, both losers and winners, and everything else in-between. I know someone else paid for their wedding through betting and kept a blog so how hard can it be?

The betting will start in August which suits me as it sees the return of the football along with snooker and loads of other great betting opportunities.

First up though are a number of selections for the Tennis and Golf that are taking place this week.

Golf has been good for me over the last year and sits proudly alongside football as my main earner. The World Golf Championship at Bridgestone live on Sky Sports is one to get your teeth into. No Tiger Woods, who dominates at this course (and most others) means it’s rich pickings for the rest of the field. My strategy, which seems to be working, is generally opting for the form players. The hope is that one or more of them will get in contention and then i’ll lay some back for a profit across the board. That loosely describes how I bet on golf as it can change depending on the scenarios thrown at me. However, over the next week you’ll see it in action and hopefully it will be rewarding both financially and strategically. Sorry i’m sounding like a sales manager, i’ll be displaying pie charts in a minute.

Anyway on to my selections -

Kenny Perry 22 £55.00 £1,155.00
Ref: Bet matched:
Anthony Kim 21 £65.00 £1,300.00
Ref: Bet matched:
Andres Romero 65 £25.00 £1,600.00
Ref: Bet matched:
Trevor Immelman 60 £25.00 £1,475.00
Ref: Bet matched:
Robert Karlsson 50 £28.00 £1,372.00
Ref: Bet matched:
Boo Weekley 80 £15.00 £1,185.00
Ref: Bet matched:
Rocco Mediate 190 £17.00 £3,213.00
Ref: Bet matched:
  £230.00

£230 invested in total, had backed Mike Weir but he’s pulled out so went in with Trevor Immelman – not really in great form but have a gut feeling. Kim, Karlsson and Romero are players i’m almost backing week in week out and so far it’s proved pretty fruitful – Romero less so recently. As for Kim his price is shortening every week so it may be a case of dropping this one soon but i’m reluctant to let go just yet. Perry’s form is fantastic and he chooses events he thinks he can win so who am I to argue?

I realise this first blog is getting a bit long now so i’m just going to highlight my tennis selections for the Cincinnati Masters

Roger Federer 3.05 £160.00 £328.00
Ref: Bet matched:
Andy Roddick 65 £20.00 £1,280.00
Ref: Bet matched:
James Blake 127.32 £20.00 £2,526.30
Ref: Bet matched:
  £200.00

Federer is like a wounded animal at the moment yet he’s now pretty fresh, I expect a turnaround and also feel Nadal is low on energy reserves. The other two are both capable of doing it here and think the odds are quite long so had a dabble.

Sorry, one other golf bet in the Reno-Tahoe Open

Kevin Na 42 £11.00 £451.00
Ref: Bet matched:
  £11.00

Anyway good luck if you’re following my selections and I hope you stay with me on this long journey!
